A man is in custody after police stopped a stolen car and found a machete and Class B drugs inside.
Stolen Car on Edgware Road Sparks Chase
At around 9.15pm on Wednesday, 15 April, officers from Operation Venice on patrol in Westminster spotted a grey Fiat Abarth on Edgware Road, W2. The car was reported stolen and driving with false plates.
When officers signalled for the car to stop, it sped off. Police launched an authorised pursuit and eventually forced the vehicle to halt on Warwick Avenue, W2, using tactical contact.
Arrest Made for Multiple Offences
The driver was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle theft, failing to stop for police, possession with intent to supply cannabis, and possession of an offensive weapon – a machete. He remains in custody in central London.
Police Crack Down on Drug and Violence Link
PC Stuart MacPherson from Operation Venice said: “There is an established link between drug supply and violence. Our officers, along with the entire Met, work around the clock to pursue those involved in such crimes.
“In this case, officers acted quickly to identify the stolen car and brought the situation to a safe and professional conclusion. We will continue tirelessly to arrest those intent on committing violent crime across London.”
