Wiltshire Cops Smash Suspected Brothel in Exploitation Crackdown
Wiltshire Police’s new Exploitation and Missing Team (EMT) has hit back hard against sexual and child exploitation linked to drugs and organised crime gangs. After some slick intelligence work, officers swooped on an address in the Centros Apartments, Fisherton Street, last week, targeting a possible brothel.
Man Arrested for Controlling Prostitution
Police had intel that a man would be at the flat on a given day – they struck fast and arrested a 41-year-old from Basingstoke on suspicion of controlling prostitution for profit. He was taken to Melksham Police Custody but later released under investigation.
During their search, officers seized around £6,000 in cash and several items linked to sexual activity, confirming the nature of the operation.
Victim Protected as Investigation Continues
One woman connected to the flat is now safeguarded and supported by specially trained EMT officers. Detective Inspector Eirin Martin said: “Following months of intelligence in this part of the county, this is a really good result for the team.”
“We’re laser-focused on protecting vulnerable victims – adults and children alike – exploited by ruthless organised gangs. There’s still plenty of work ahead to protect those trafficked and abused for these illegal schemes.”
Public Urged to Report Exploitation
Det Insp Martin added: “This crime is more common than most realise. We urge anyone with suspicions to come forward. The public’s eyes and ears are vital in shutting down these criminal networks.”
