Havant Council Boss Rides Shotgun with Bin Crews

Last week, Havant Borough Council leader Councillor Alex Rennie swapped the council chamber for the council bins. He joined the Norse South East (NSE) bin crews on a morning shift to see their tough job firsthand.

Bin Workers: The Unsung Heroes of Lockdown

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, these bin crews have pushed through tough conditions to keep collections running smoothly. Despite a shortage of HGV drivers, they’ve kept one of Havant’s most vital services alive.

“It was a pleasure to join the fantastic crew on a collection round. These guys have worked throughout lockdown and continue to keep one of our most vital services running during this incredibly difficult time,” said Councillor Rennie.

Early Mornings, Heavy Lifts – A Gruelling Grind

Rennie got up at the crack of dawn with the team on Thursday 19 August and was shocked by the sheer effort involved. He said:

“NSE crews get up at the crack of dawn every day, no matter the weather, and empty our waste. They deserve our utmost respect and appreciation.”

Massive Cleanup: 105 Tonnes of Rubbish Collected Daily

Every day, the crews collect over 105 tonnes of rubbish and 30 tonnes of recycling across the borough. Their hard graft keeps Havant clean and running – no matter what.
