19-Year-Old Arrested in South Norwood Knife Attack on Two Men

A 19-year-old man was arrested in South Norwood this afternoon on suspicion of two counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH). He is currently in police custody.

Detective Superintendent Speaks Out

Detective Superintendent Vanessa Britton, Central South Command Unit, said: “This arrest marks a significant development in our investigation. The two victims have been informed and continue to receive support from our officers, including our dedicated LGBT+ Community Liaison Officer (CLO).

I understand the concern and distress this horrific incident has caused in the LGBT+ community. I want to reassure them — and all Londoners — that a team of officers is working diligently to get to the bottom of this.”

The Attack: What Happened?

The assault took place at around 10:15pm on Sunday, August 13. The two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were standing outside a nightclub when a man approached and stabbed them before fleeing the scene.

Both victims were rushed to hospital for treatment and have since been discharged, though they may require further care.

LGBT+ Community Support and Ongoing Enquiry

PC Hayley Jones, the dedicated LGBT+ Community Liaison Officer for Lambeth and Southwark, said: “We know some LGBT+ individuals may feel wary about speaking to police. My role is to provide a trusted point of contact, offering support and advice on investigations where homophobia or transphobia might be involved.
