Man attacked in Shanklin: fractured face leaves man needing surgery

Police on the Isle of Wight are hunting witnesses after a shocking assault in Shanklin in the early hours of Thursday, June 14.

Fierce attack on Regent Street

Officers and Isle of Wight Ambulance Service rushed to Regent Street at 12:40am following reports of a violent brawl outside the Falcon pub. A 32-year-old man was badly hurt, suffering a fractured eye socket and cheekbone that needed emergency surgery at St Mary’s Hospital.

Suspect arrested but later released

Shortly after, an 18-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. However, he has now been released without charge and faces no further action as police continue their enquires.

Witnesses urged to come forward

Police are appealing to anyone who saw a large group of men involved in a dispute between 12:20am and 12:45am outside the Falcon on Regent Street to get in touch.
