Over 280 Volunteer Cops Hunt Violent Offenders Across London
More than 280 Met Special Constables (MSC) – volunteer officers with full police powers – hit London’s streets this weekend. Their mission? To crack down on violent criminals and make the city safer.
Arrests and Sweeps Target Violence Hotspots
On Saturday 18 April, the MSC launched a major day of action, carrying out arrest enquiries and weapon sweeps in London’s most dangerous areas. The results speak for themselves:
- 3 high-harm offenders caught and arrested for skipping court on violence charges
- 12 drug-related arrests
- 15 comprehensive weapon sweeps
- 1 knife seized
- 3 separate drug busts
‘Op Kaiser’ Hits Roads to Nab Violent Offenders
Some Special Constables teamed up with the Met’s Violent Crime Taskforce for ‘Op Kaiser’ – an ANPR blitz targeting vehicles linked to violent crime. Officers stopped cars across Vauxhall, Blackfriars, and Tower Bridge, searching drivers to disrupt criminal networks on the move.
The operation netted eight more arrests for offences including:
- Drug driving
- Possession with intent to supply
- Theft of motor vehicle
- Driving without licence or insurance
Met Bosses Praise Volunteers for Keeping London Safe
“These results showcase our commitment to tackling violence and keeping our communities safe,” said James Deller, Assistant Chief Officer of the Metropolitan Special Constabulary.
“Days like this act as a strong deterrent. Despite the pandemic, our Special Constables remain out there, preventing crime and protecting lives.”
John Conway, Chief Officer of the Metropolitan Special Constabulary, added: “It was brilliant to witness our Special Constables in action supporting policing across London. Huge thanks to all volunteers dedicating their time to make our city safer.”
Speak Up to Help Catch Criminals
The Met urges Londoners to come forward with information about violent offenders, weapon carriers, or those exploiting young people. Community intel is crucial to stopping crime and saving lives.
