Kent Police Team Up to Protect Wildlife on Coastline
Kent Police’s Rural Task Force is joining forces with the coastguard and the RSPB to crack down on wildlife disturbance along the county’s beautiful shore. They’ve issued fresh advice for boaters and jet skiers to help safeguard protected birds and marine mammals.
Keep Calm and Keep Your Distance
Sergeant Darren Walshaw urged the public to respect the coastline’s fragile ecosystem. “Kent’s stunning shoreline is home to protected seabirds and marine life,” he said. “We want everyone to enjoy the coast, but it’s vital to respect their natural habitat.”
His top tip? Keep your distance. “Seabirds are highly sensitive. If you spot them, move away quietly. Boat and jet ski users should stick to a no-wake speed below 5mph near cliffs, and slow down to go around groups of birds on the water.”
Legal Warning: Wildlife Protection Is No Joke
Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it’s a criminal offence to kill, injure, or disturb protected wild animals. So, next time you hit the waves, remember: stay safe and respect wildlife – or risk facing the law.
