Police Close Case on Tesco Lorry Inferno on M25 – No Crime Found
Police have wrapped up their probe into a dramatic Tesco lorry blaze on the M25 and found no sign of foul play. The fiery crash happened late on October 20, sparking chaos between Junction 5 and Junction 6 near Godstone.
Massive Fireball Erupts After Tesco Lorry Smashes Barrier
Inside 10pm, a Tesco lorry collided with the central barrier, triggering a gigantic fireball that engulfed the truck and spread flames across the motorway. Dashcam footage showed the terrifying moment of impact.
Surrey Police said: “Our investigation into the single-vehicle crash on the M25 on October 20 is complete. There’s no evidence of criminal conduct, no arrests made. The case is now closed.”
Eyewitnesses Recall Panic as Fire Devoured Road
Motorist Anthony Moc, driving behind the lorry, said: “He smashed into the barrier, and there was a big ball of fire. I was panicked and scared. It was the first accident I’ve ever seen while driving. I thought the lorry might explode.”
Another witness just managed to pull the driver to safety before flames took hold. They added: “It was lucky no one else was involved. We held traffic back until firefighters arrived.”
M25 Shut, Fire Crews Battle Blaze for 10 Hours
The fire forced the M25 to shut in both directions. Five fire engines and two water carriers tackled the inferno for 10 hours. The intense heat badly damaged the road and central reservation, delaying recovery efforts.
Surrey Fire and Rescue handed all queries to police, while Tesco declined to comment on the driver’s condition or any internal investigations.
Driver Escapes with Minor Injuries as Traffic Chaos Ensues
Thankfully, the lorry driver suffered only minor injuries, Surrey Police confirmed. National Highways reported major motorway disruption and said repairs to damaged infrastructure would be extensive.
No other vehicles were involved, and no further casualties were reported in this high-octane incident.
