Cyclist Alan Tankard fatally hit on Wakefield Road

Alan Tankard, 31, from Normanton, died after a hit-and-run crash on Wakefield Road at about 11:20pm on Wednesday, April 13. The tragic collision happened when a black Honda Civic, travelling north, smashed into his push bike before speeding off.

Police make arrests after car found abandoned

Officers found the Honda Civic abandoned shortly after the crash. Two men have since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in custody.

Investigation ongoing – police seek witnesses

The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) is urgently appealing for anyone who saw the crash or the moments leading up to it. They are particularly interested in CCTV or dashcam footage from the area.

DCI Helen Steele said: “This has been a very serious collision resulting in the tragic loss of a man’s life. The car involved failed to stop, but two arrests have now been made. We are asking anyone with information to come forward.”
