Police Seal Off Reading Town Centre, Hunt for Witnesses

Large sections of St Mary’s Butts, Castle Street, and Reading Minster Churchyard remain cordoned off while forensic teams comb the scene. An increased police presence is expected to continue in the area for the foreseeable future.

Detective Inspector Sally Russell said: “We know this attempted murder will cause concern, but we are investigating it as a high priority. There is a large scene-watch in place in St Mary’s Butts, so people will see an increased police presence while officers and staff carry out enquiries.”

“We believe there may have been numerous witnesses, including those with mobile phone footage of the incident or its aftermath. Please send any footage or photos directly to us via our dedicated online portal instead of sharing on social media.”

Transport Disruptions and How to Help

Bus routes through St Mary’s Butts have been diverted due to the police cordon. Authorities are urging patience while the investigation continues.
