Tragedy Strikes as 9-Year-Old Boy Dies After Lightning Hit on Football Field
A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Tuesday evening as a nine-year-old boy died following a suspected lightning strike on a football pitch.
Lightning Strike Hits Child on School Road Field
Shortly after 5.05pm on May 11th, emergency services were called to the fields off School Road after reports of a child injured in a shocking incident.
Police believe the boy was struck by lightning during what was meant to be a routine football session. Paramedics rushed the youngster to hospital, but tragically he passed away shortly afterwards.
Police and Family React to Devastating Loss
Detective Superintendent Nick Connaughton of Lancashire Police expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, saying, “This is a truly devastating incident and our thoughts are wholeheartedly with the family and friends of the young boy, who has passed away, at this very sad and distressing time.”
The boy’s family have been notified and are receiving ongoing support from police officers.
Road Closures Lifted – Police Seek Witnesses
Authorities have now reopened the roads that were closed following the incident.
