New Tech Upgrade Boosts Ambulance Dispatch in England
When people think of ambulance services, flashing blue lights and lifesaving crews usually come to mind. But the real heroes also include the control room teams who handle 999 calls and send help. Without them, frontline crews couldn’t do their vital work.
Next-Gen Communications Speed Up Emergency Response
Thanks to a fresh piece of cutting-edge communication kit, dispatchers now find their job a whole lot easier. After nearly 10 years with the old Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS), this ambulance trust is the first in England to roll out an upgraded system.
Jeremy Brown, Integrated Emergency and Urgent Care & Performance Director, said: “This is part of the National Ambulance Radio Programme (ARP). The new control room solution offers enhanced voice and data communications, making the service more resilient.”
He added: “The new system is quicker and easier to use. It also boosts our major incident capacity, improving coordination with police and fire services. It’s like moving from an old analogue phone to a smartphone.”
Control Room Staff Praise User-Friendly System
Controller Abdul Rahman, who dispatches ambulances daily, shared his thoughts: “The new system is much more intuitive, like using a tablet. It’s faster and confirms that important info reaches the right place. Plus, we get more data than before, making my job simpler.”
Mr Brown gave a shoutout to the staff behind the scenes: “Thanks to all the trainers, IT and communications teams who made the switch seamless. We’re already seeing the benefits, which will ultimately help patients.”
