Kent Police Hit the Streets on Safety Mission

Kent Police’s Medway Task Force teamed up with Medway Council, Crime Stoppers, and the Violence Reduction Unit for a high-profile “walk and talk” operation in Rochester on Friday, 9 December 2022. The event ran from 4pm to 7pm, targeting public safety, especially for women and girls out in town.

Free Safety Gear and Vital Advice Handed Out

Officers and partners handed out anti-drink spiking kits, personal safety items, and crucial advice on the safest, best-lit routes home. They also pointed out where people could get help if needed, keeping the message clear: safety comes first.

Listening to Women’s Concerns to Tackle Future Risks

The teams spoke directly to women about their safety worries in the town centre. This feedback will feed into plans to improve policing and community safeguarding in future operations.

“Rochester remains a safe place to live, work and visit, but we understand the concerns women and girls have and want to hear about them,” said Police Sergeant Sasha Blomfield of Medway Task Force.

Kent Police is committed to protecting women and girls wherever they are — at home, at work or out and about. If anyone has been a victim of violence or other crime, please report it immediately so we can provide help.”

Council Leaders Back the Push for a Safer Medway

Medway Council’s Cllr Adrian Gulvin, responsible for Community Safety, praised the event despite chilly weather, saying:

“It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm of all partners involved. We’re proud to work together to make Medway safer to live, work, learn, and visit.”
