The M25 anticlockwise near Godstone has been shut down following a “serious” collision. Police enforced a full lane closure just after 7.15pm on Thursday, leaving hundreds of drivers stuck before Junction 6.
Emergency Crews Rush to Scene
Surrey Police, paramedics, and Surrey Fire & Rescue teams are scrambling at the site. Several people suffered life-changing injuries in the crash. Drivers have reported being trapped for up to two hours amid the standstill.
“A car collided with the central reservation, triggering the closure,” a Surrey Roads Policing spokesperson confirmed. “We have launched a full collision investigation.”
Long Diversion in Place – What You Need to Know
Highways England has set up a diversion. Take Junction 8 (Reigate) off the M25, follow signs marked by a yellow square. This route sends traffic down the A217 through Reigate, then onto the A25 towards Redhill, and finally the A23 towards Gatwick.
At the roundabout, turn left onto the A25 through Godstone to rejoin the M25.
Police warn the closure could last until 1am Friday.
