Shane Nash Snared After CCTV Clue and Patrol Car Sighting
Shane Nash, 39, was caught red-handed after being spotted by a police officer while walking with friends on Muirfield Road, Top Valley, on January 31. Just two days earlier, Nash had raped a teenage girl in a dark alley near Rise Park, threatening her during the attack.
CCTV Footage and Distinctive Walk Blow Case Wide Open
The horrific crime was partially caught on CCTV. Footage of the attacker was circulated in a major media appeal. An officer, after reviewing the footage, immediately recognised Nash’s unique walking style and broad, square shoulders the day before spotting him.
Spotting his outfit matched the suspect’s—including the same grey trainers—the officer and her partner stopped him. A search uncovered a black beanie and red sleeping bag mentioned by the victim, tightening the noose.
Nash Finally Caves, Jailed for Life
Nash, formerly of Boniface Gardens, Bestwood, was arrested on rape suspicion but initially denied everything, even when DNA proved his guilt beyond doubt. It wasn’t until his second court hearing in March that he admitted to one count of rape and one of attempted rape.
Sentenced today, Nash received life imprisonment with a minimum of 15 years behind bars. He was also placed on the sex offender register indefinitely.
Detective Praises Police Work, Condemns Nash’s Attitude
“This was a horrific crime that shocked and appalled the local community,” said Detective Inspector Craig Hall of Nottinghamshire Police. “The victim, just walking home, was grabbed and attacked. She is traumatised and will likely suffer long-term effects.”
“She has shown remarkable courage and dignity throughout. Nash’s behaviour, however, has been appalling with no remorse whatsoever, denying the offence even when faced with incontrovertible evidence.”
“Thanks to outstanding police work, especially by the officer who recognised Nash, a dangerous criminal is now off the streets. Many officers worked tirelessly to bring justice in this case.”
