Major Crash Shuts A1(M) Northbound in Hertfordshire

The A1(M) northbound is shut between Junction 6 (Welwyn) and Junction 7 (Stevenage) after a serious motorbike crash. Hertfordshire Police are at the scene, investigating. One lane is also shut southbound.

Northbound Closure to Last All Afternoon

Police expect the closure to remain for hours to carry out collision probes and clear the wreckage. Drivers must follow a diversion around the closed section.

How to Navigate the Diversion

  • Exit at J6 and follow local signs marked with a black circle.
  • Take the B197 then the A1000 towards Welwyn.
  • At the J6 north roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto B197 northbound.
  • Continue through Woolmer Green and Knebworth to Stevenage.
  • At the A607 roundabout, take the 1st exit west on A607 to rejoin A1(M) at J7.
