Pawel Bukowski, 48, a forklift driver from Norwich, spiralled into deep depression and died after a dentist left him toothless with no temporary dentures and a six-month wait for implants.
Toothless and Traumatised
Pawel, a dad-of-three, suffered from chronic dental problems for years. Hoping for relief, he travelled to Turkey in January 2025 for ‘Turkey teeth’ implants. But after the clinic removed all his teeth, they stunned him by sending him home without any dentures, telling him to wait half a year before implants could be fitted.
“They sent him home without any teeth and told him to return in six months. This was emotionally devastating for him,” said his wife, Daria Bukowski. “He was deeply broken emotionally, losing his teeth had destroyed his self-confidence and sense of hope.”
Rapid Decline into Despair
The toothless state took a brutal toll on Pawel. Unable to eat properly and overwhelmed by shame, he sank into heavy drinking and deep depression. Despite his wife and daughters’ unwavering support, Pawel lost all hope.
“He lost all hope that things could improve. Despite all our efforts, we were ultimately unable to save him,” Daria revealed.
Mental Health Response Fails
Mental health experts intervened but struggled due to Pawel’s drinking. They decided he didn’t need psychiatric admission, citing “protective factors” and “some evidence of future planning.” A psychiatrist’s visit was delayed, and Pawel was found dead three hours later at his home in Watton, Norfolk, on April 28 last year.
