Twelve Horses Killed in Devastating Burnham Stable Fire
A midnight blaze at a Burnham livery yard has tragically claimed the lives of twelve horses. Fire crews were scrambled to Maldon Road just before midnight after passers-by spotted flames engulfing a large stable building and called 999.
Flames Rip Through Stable
Witnesses rushed to help, managing to rescue some horses from the inferno. However, despite their desperate efforts and the firefighter’s heroic response, twelve horses died at the scene.
Station Manager Craig McLellan described the grim scene: “When firefighters arrived, the fire was already well developed. The whole building was alight and the roof had collapsed.”
Firefighters Battle Blaze All Night
Fire crews worked through the night to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings. By 8am, they were still dampening down and hunting for hot spots.

The cause of the devastating fire remains unknown as investigations continue. Authorities are probing how the blaze ignited in the stable that houses valuable animals.
