Cheshire Police Launch Manhunt After Two Women Abducted in Congleton
Chaos erupted in Congleton on Sunday evening when two women were forcibly bundled into a black Fiat Punto at 6.45pm. The terrifying abduction sent shockwaves through the town centre.
Foot Chase Follows After Car Crash
Police quickly spotted the Punto and gave chase. The pursuit ended abruptly on Oblisque Way when the vehicle slammed into another car. The driver then bolted on foot, abandoning the two women inside.
Suspect Linked to Incident: Joseph McCann
Officers believe notorious fugitive Joseph McCann is behind the abduction. The 34-year-old is wanted by Metropolitan Police and described as muscular, 5ft 10in tall, with blue eyes, a bald or shaved blond head, a light short beard, and a tattoo reading ‘Bobbie’ on his stomach.
Superintendent Sarah Pengelly warned: “McCann is a dangerous individual. Do not approach him. If you see him, call 999 immediately.”
She added, “There is a heavy police presence in Congleton, including road checks in and out of town.”
Victims Safe but Shaken
The two women were unharmed but deeply traumatised. They are now being cared for by specially trained officers.
