Firefighters Battle Blaze at Biffa Recycling Centre, 100 Tonnes of Rubbish Still Ablaze

More than 24 hours after a fire erupted at the Biffa recycling centre in Marchwood, firefighters are still battling flames amid thick smoke.

Massive Fire Rages On

The blaze broke out just after noon on Monday, igniting around 140 tonnes of household waste. Since then, crews have been working nonstop to control the inferno.

Firefighters Dig In – Literally

Rescue teams dressed in breathing apparatus are driving diggers with giant buckets inside the smoke-filled building. They’re hauling out burning commercial waste to put the fire out.

Huge Emergency Response Underway

  • Over 100 emergency personnel involved
  • 10 pumping appliances on scene
  • Two aerial ladder platforms deployed
  • Multiple water carriers supporting efforts

Despite overnight efforts removing around 100 tonnes of smouldering garbage, the fire is far from over. Firefighters remain on site, determined to extinguish the stubborn blaze.
