RSPCA Rescues Gull Trapped in Netting in Cardiff

A gull got itself into a right pickle on Park Place in Cardiff, caught up in netting between a health club and a cocktail bar. A sharp-eyed member of the public spotted the unlucky bird and called the RSPCA Cymru on Tuesday (13 July).

Firefighters and Inspectors Team Up for Rescue

RSPCA inspector Sophie Daniels swung into action and called in South Wales Fire & Rescue Service. Using ladders, firefighters reached the distressed gull and freed it from the tangled net.

The bird was then taken to a local vet for a quick health check before being transferred to a specialist rescue centre in Herefordshire for expert care. The aim? To nurse the gull back to full health and release it back into the wild.

Warning About Dangerous Building Netting

“This gull was found on netting between a health club and a cocktail bar – so we’re not quite sure if he fancied a workout, a night out or a snack,” said Inspector Sophie.

“But in all seriousness, the poor bird was in a terrible tangle and we had to enlist the support of our friends at Whitchurch Fire Station to help.”

“It’s another advert of what we can do together for animal welfare,” she added.

“Netting on buildings poses a real threat to wild birds like this gull. The RSPCA urges using safer alternatives to keep wildlife safe.”
