BBC Puts Spin-Off The Split Up On Ice Indefinitely
Bad news for fans of The Split! The BBC has hit the brakes on The Split Up, the much-anticipated spin-off series. Originally due to film next month in Manchester, production has now been paused indefinitely with no comeback date in sight.
Production Halted Over “Editorial Reasons”
The new series, set to dive into the drama of a high-end British-Asian divorce firm, will have to wait. A BBC insider cited “editorial reasons” for the sudden stop but gave no further details. With filming meant to start imminently, the delay throws the show’s future into serious doubt.
A Fresh Take on Family, Divorce, and Culture
Created by Ursula Rani Sarma, The Split Up promised a fresh storyline centred on Kishan Law, a family-run divorce firm rocked by a deep family secret. Sarma said at the announcement, “I was honoured to be asked to create The Split Up: a spin-off which introduces a whole new family and city while still holding on to the warmth, humour, and heartbreak of Abi Morgan’s original series.”
Critics also hailed the series for bringing vital British-Asian representation to UK screens, enriching the legal drama genre with fresh cultural layers.
The Split Fans Still Have Something to Look Forward To
While the spin-off remains in limbo, fans can still catch a two-part special of the original The Split airing later this year. The special follows Hannah’s love life two years on, set amid weddings, break-ups, and reunions.
The BBC and production company Sisters say they’ll review plans for The Split Up in the future, so watch this space for updates.
