Blaze Rips Through Basement and Ground Floor of Building
Half the basement and part of the ground floor were gutted by fire in a dramatic blaze. Firefighters heroically rescued a woman from a rear basement window. She was rushed to hospital by London Ambulance crews.
Firefighters Battle Flames for Nearly 13 Hours
The London Fire Brigade was called at 12:47am. The fire was finally brought under control just before 1:44pm. Crews from six stations – Woodside, Croydon, Beckenham, West Norwood, Norbury, and Forest Hill – pitched in to tackle the inferno.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains unknown. Both the Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service have launched a probe to find out what sparked the blaze.
