Driver Loses It on M3 Slip Road as BMW Aquaplanes

A black BMW aquaplaned just after the entry slip road onto the M3 at Winnall, Junction 9, sending the driver into a terrifying spin.

Emergency Crews Rush In but Stand Down Quickly

Firefighters from Winchester and Basingstoke raced to the scene around 1pm, but thankfully no one was hurt and they were soon stood down.

The driver escaped uninjured, but police revealed the car’s tyres had shockingly low tread — making grip on wet roads impossible.

Police Issue Stark Warning on Tyres and Driving in Rain

Hampshire Roads Police urged motorists to “Check your tyres! The legal minimum tread is 1.6mm.” They confirmed the crash was caused by lack of grip and aquaplaning.

Just seven hours earlier, officers blasted careless drivers warning:

“POLITE NOTICE!!! It’s raining! Six crashes in 20 minutes show drivers aren’t adjusting to conditions. Some speeding up at lane closures without slowing down or moving over. SLOW DOWN!

Stay Safe: Slow Down and Check Your Tyres

With heavy rain causing treacherous conditions on Hampshire roads, police urge all drivers to reduce speed and check tyre tread to avoid more crashes like this.
