Man Arrested for Attempted Murder After Vehicle Hits Two Police Officers
Dramatic Police Stop Turns Violent in Chafford Hundred
Chaos erupted in Chafford Hundred on Tuesday, 14 January, as a vehicle collided with two police officers during a stop check on Drake Road at around 9.15pm. The driver tried to flee but mounted a grass verge and struck the officers. One officer was dragged to the ground and run over, while the other was punched in the face.
26-Year-Old Held on Multiple Charges
After a short chase, the woman officer detained the 26-year-old suspect, who is now in custody. He faces a raft of charges including attempted murder, assaulting a police officer, driving under the influence, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and resisting arrest.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
Chief Inspector Richard Melton, Thurrock District Commander, said: “Fortunately, our officers were not seriously injured and have been discharged from hospital. Specialist teams are carrying out welfare checks ahead of their return to work. No officer should ever be assaulted while doing their job, and anyone who harms them will be arrested and prosecuted.”
