Suspicious Package Sparks Panic at Blackfriars Tube Station
A suspicious package suddenly burst into flames near Blackfriars Underground Station on Monday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the busy commuter hub.
Swift Emergency Response Closes Station
The drama unfolded at around 2pm next to one of the platforms at Blackfriars Bridge station. Passersby spotted the package catching fire and quickly alerted authorities.
Firefighters and police rushed to the scene, evacuating the station and cordoning off the area for public safety. Eyewitnesses described a tense atmosphere as emergency crews tackled the blaze.
False Alarm but Investigation Continues
A British Transport Police spokesman confirmed: “Officers were called to Blackfriars underground station at around 1.45pm today (9 October) to reports of a suspicious package on fire. London Fire Brigade attended along with officers. The station was evacuated and cordoned off as a precaution, the item was deemed to be non-suspicious and the station will shortly be re-opened. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The incident raised immediate security concerns, but thankfully no threat was found. Commuters can expect Blackfriars station to reopen soon as investigations wrap up.
