Fire Rips Through Bedsit Flat – Man Rescued in Dramatic Rescue
Half of Flat Destroyed in Fire
A blaze tore through a bedsit on the ground floor of a three-storey building, wrecking half the flat. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rushed in to rescue a man overcome by smoke. He was taken to hospital by London Ambulance crews.
Accidental Fire Linked to Table Fan
The fire is believed to have started accidentally from a table fan left on the bed. The fan overheated, igniting nearby fabric and sparking the flames.
Fire Brigade Issues Urgent Safety Warning
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson warned:
“It’s vital to use electrical devices on hard, flat surfaces where heat can escape. Using them on soft fabrics restricts airflow and causes overheating.”

- Fire reported at 11.20am, controlled by 12.05pm
- Three fire engines and 15 firefighters from Forest Hill, Woodside, and West Norwood attended
