Four people have been charged following a police investigation into the circumstances which led to two 17-year-olds from Cardiff travelling to Thailand, where they were arrested in June. South Wales Police launched an investigation after being informed that the two teenagers had been detained by authorities in Thailand. Officers carried out arrests in Cardiff and West Yorkshire on Wednesday, 5 August, as part of the ongoing investigation. Levi Mohamed, 20, of Butetown, Cardiff, has been charged with conspiring to fraudulently evade a prohibition on the importation of a Class B drug and four counts of conspiring to arrange the travel of another person with a view to exploitation. Patrick O’Driscoll, 30, of Caerau, Cardiff, has been charged with conspiring to fraudulently evade a prohibition on the importation of a Class B drug, four counts of conspiring to arrange the travel of another with a view to exploitation, and possession of a firearm. Gareth Press, 42, of Ely, Cardiff, has been charged with conspiring to fraudulently evade a prohibition on the importation of a Class B drug and two counts of conspiring to arrange the travel of another with a view to exploitation. Ffion Bowes-Cavanagh Hooley, 24, of Caerau, Cardiff, has been charged with conspiring to fraudulently evade a prohibition on the importation of a Class B drug. All four are due to appear before Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 7 August. A fifth person, a 23-year-old man from Keighley, West Yorkshire, was arrested on suspicion of the improper importation of controlled drugs. He has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue. The two 17-year-olds remain in custody in Thailand and are being supported by their families and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, according to South Wales Police. Police said the teenagers’ families have been updated following the arrests and charges and acknowledged that the continuing investigation remains a concerning time for both their relatives and the wider community.
