London Community Credit Union Collapses – FSCS Steps In to Shield Members

Shockwaves hit thousands as London Community Credit Union Limited (LCCU) suddenly shuts its doors. The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) has stepped up, pledging a £15.4 million payout to protect savers left stranded by the collapse.

Branches Close Amid Crisis

LCCU had branches in Stratford and Hackney but recently shuttered key locations in Bethnal Green and Poplar before ceasing all trading. With 18,335 members affected, fears over savings quickly mounted.

£85,000 Safety Net for Members

The FSCS has moved fast, assuring members their money is safe. Most will see compensation within seven working days. The scheme covers savings up to £85,000 per person – a vital safety net during this turmoil.

“We want to reassure customers of London Community Credit Union that their money is safe,” said Sarah Marin, FSCS Chief Customer Officer. “FSCS protects people’s savings up to £85,000, and we’re committed to making sure customers can access their money and get back on track as quickly as possible when a credit union goes out of business.”

How to Claim Your Compensation

  • Members with registered emails can claim via the FSCS Payments Portal, choosing cheque or direct bank transfer.
  • Those without online access will automatically receive a cheque within seven days.
  • Any LCCU members not contacted but believing they have funds should reach out to joint administrators James Sleight and Stratford Hamilton at PKF Littlejohn Advisory Ltd.

Members needing more info can visit the FSCS website or contact the administrators at Third Floor, One Park Row, Leeds, LS15 5HN.

FSCS Moves Swiftly to Support Thousands

The FSCS’s rapid intervention brings relief to thousands of London Community Credit Union members. With prompt compensation and clear guidance, savers can breathe easier despite the credit union’s collapse.
