Major chaos on the M25 today after an HGV erupted in flames near the Darenth Interchange. The cab of the lorry, loaded with rounded timber, was engulfed in fire, sparking rush-hour gridlock.
Firefighters Snuff Blaze Before It Spreads
Kent Fire and Rescue Service sprang into action, sending two fire engines to the scene. Wearing breathing apparatus, crews tackled the flames with hose reel jets. Thanks to their quick response, the fire was stopped from spreading to the timber load.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesperson said:
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a lorry alight on the M25 clockwise, near Junction 2 for Dartford.
“Two fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. No casualties were reported and the cause is unknown.”
“Duty of care has been left with the Highways Agency and motorists have been advised to expect delays while congestion clears in the area.”
Drivers are warned to brace for long queues and significant delays while emergency teams clear up after the blaze.
