Fire Chief Urges Public to Play Their Part

Colin King, Assistant Director for Customer Engagement and Safety at KFRS, said: “Grass, crop and woodland fires can take hold and spread rapidly. These incidents can have devastating consequences. Everyone living, visiting, and working in the county must do their bit to stop them before they start.”

Top Tips to Prevent Fires This Season

  • Keep bonfires small and well away from greenery or buildings. Always supervise and avoid lighting them on windy days.
  • Dispose of cigarettes properly — stub them out, cool them, and consider using a portable ashtray when out and about.
  • Use disposable barbecues only on sturdy, non-flammable surfaces, far from plants and property. Make sure they’re fully cool before disposing.

Follow these simple safety steps and help keep the county safe from fiery disasters this fire season.
