A 29-year-old man from Liverpool has been locked up for 23 years after posing as a taxi driver to prey on vulnerable young women in the city centre.
Sexual Predator ‘Prowled’ City Streets for Drunk Teenagers
Amponsah Thompson, of Rocky Lane, targeted lone, intoxicated teenagers between 2024 and 2025. He used his Mercedes to trick victims into thinking he was a legitimate taxi driver.
- He lured an 18-year-old into his car, claiming it was a taxi, then drove her to his home in Tuebrook and sexually assaulted her in the back seat.
- While on bail, Thompson picked up another heavily drunk 18-year-old, took her to his flat, and raped her.
- He also repeatedly raped a third woman in 2025, brandishing a knife to threaten her.
Judge Labels Thompson ‘Dangerous Offender’
Liverpool Crown Court heard Thompson showed “little regard for consent.” The judge described him as a “dangerous offender” and a grave risk to the public. He must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before parole. Afterwards, he will spend eight years on licence. Thompson has been placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, and deportation could follow once he’s released.
