Follow the “Hollow Square” Diversion – Step-by-Step
Motorists are advised to follow the “Hollow Square” diversion route:
- Exit M1 southbound at Junction 22 and take the first left exit onto the A50.
- Head east on A50, passing Field Head and Bradgate Hill Roundabouts, then at Lena Drive junction continue to the A50/A46 Interchange.
- At the interchange, take the second exit and stay on the A50 eastbound.
- Pass through A50 Station Road Roundabout to A50/A563 Groby Roundabout, then take the third exit onto A563 Nene Parks Way southbound.
- Follow A563 southbound through Dillon Way, Aikman Road junctions, Glenfield Road Roundabout, Park View junction, Scudamore Road and Hinckley Road Roundabouts to the Lubbesthorpe Way/Meridian Roundabout.
- Take the second exit and continue south to the A56/A5460 signals, then turn right onto the A5640 slip road.
- Proceed through traffic lights onto A5460 westbound, leading to M1 Junction 21.
- Take the first exit and rejoin the M1 southbound.
Alternative Routes for M1 J21a and A46 Traffic
Drivers coming from M1 Junction 21a and the A46 should exit the A46 southbound at the B5380 Kirby Muxloe Interchange. Loop around to the third exit to head north on the A46. Continue to the A46/A50 Interchange, exit, and take the third exit onto A50 westbound to rejoin the main diversion.
