TfL’s own ULEZ enforcement van caught breaking the rules – parked illegally on a South London pavement! The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) mobile camera van, tasked with cracking down on dirty vehicles, found itself on the wrong side of the law in Norbiton, Kingston.
TfL Van Nabbed for Pavement Parking Shock
Kingston Independent councillor James Giles spotted the TfL van clamped illegally on Cambridge Road on October 17. Giles didn’t waste time – filming the blatant breach and blasting it across social media. The clip sparked swift action, with a parking officer arriving quickly to slap the van with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).
‘Unacceptable’ Behaviour from the Enforcers
Councillor Giles slammed the van’s illegal parking as “entirely inappropriate and unacceptable” on Kingston’s streets. He demanded TfL stick to the rules, especially since their vans are supposed to uphold law and order. TfL have since confirmed the fine will be paid by their contractor.
“Vehicles representing TfL must know exactly where they can and cannot park,” Giles told the Local Democracy Reporting Service. “This pavement spot endangered pedestrians, including schoolchildren who use this route daily.”
ULEZ Crackdown Widens – But Even Enforcers Must Play Fair
The ULEZ expansion spread to all London boroughs on August 29, 2023, including Kingston. Drivers of non-compliant vehicles face a hefty daily £12.50 charge. Mayor Sadiq Khan’s bold scheme aims to clear London’s air by cracking down on dirty emissions across the city.
But this latest blunder shows TfL’s own team must also lead by example, following parking laws to keep Londoners safe and the rules fair across the board.
