Blaze on the Hob: Firefighters Race to Save Smoke-Logged Home
Three fire engines rushed to a property after a small kitchen fire broke out on the hob. Fire crews, kitted out in breathing apparatus, quickly doused the flames using a hose reel jet. They then blasted out the smoke with a high-powered fan to clear the house.
Smoke Alarm Saves Lives
The residents were alerted to the danger by a sounding smoke alarm and evacuated safely before firefighters arrived. One person was given oxygen on-site as a precaution for smoke inhalation, but thankfully no other injuries were reported.
Firefighters Issue Crucial Safety Warning
Crews urged everyone to stay attentive when cooking. “Don’t get distracted or leave pans unattended,” they warned. They also advised against cooking after drinking alcohol and strongly recommended ditching chip pans or old deep-fat fryers—especially those without thermostats, which can easily overheat.
Safety tips:
- Keep a working smoke alarm on every floor
- Test alarms weekly to ensure they’re active
- Stay focused while cooking and never leave it unattended
- Avoid cooking with chip pans or faulty deep fat fryers
- Don’t cook if you’ve been drinking
Remember, a moment’s distraction could lead to disaster. Stay safe and keep your home fire-ready!
