Rosamund Pike Stars in Gripping New 9/11 Audio Drama
The highly anticipated 10-part audio drama People Who Knew Me hits BBC Sounds first on 23 May 2023. This thrilling series promises a mix of mystery, emotion, and jaw-dropping twists.
A Dead Woman’s Secret Life
The story follows Emily Morris, played by Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning Rosamund Pike, who fakes her own death in the aftermath of 9/11. She vanishes, reinventing herself as Connie Prynne in sunny California.
Fast forward 14 years, and Connie faces a devastating breast cancer diagnosis. Now, with her 13-year-old daughter Claire (voiced by Isabella Sermon) by her side, she must finally confront the lies and secrets she buried — or risk leaving Claire alone.
“She must explain everything – the lies, the selfish decisions, and the ‘widowed’ husband she left behind in New York,” says the series synopsis.

Behind the Mic: What the Stars Say
Rosamund Pike: “Daniella’s scripts knocked me sideways – it’s surprising, timely, funny and moving. Playing Connie in her 20s and 40s was irresistible. There’s evidence some actually used 9/11 to fake their deaths — the idea is haunting. This audio drama feels like eavesdropping on the most private conversations.”
Sharon Horgan, Executive Producer: “Bringing Kim Hooper’s morally complex novel to life through podcast drama has been incredible. Daniella’s writing and the stellar cast pull you deep into Connie’s mind as she wrestles with truth and lies. It challenges your prejudices. What would you do if you could run away?”
Daniella Isaacs: “I wanted to lure new listeners into audio drama, tapping into its secretive, confessional power. It’s thrilling to hear a character’s innermost secrets. Making this with such a brilliant team was a joy. I hope listeners love it.”
Dylan Haskins, BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds Commissioning Editor, adds: “Sharon Horgan’s track record with hit TV dramas is legendary. Now, with Daniella and the Merman team, they’re breaking ground in audio drama. People Who Knew Me is a gripping, emotional journey with an all-star cast. BBC Sounds is proud to premiere it.”
