British Hiker’s Body Found in Majorca Flash Flood Tragedy
Police in Majorca have recovered the body of a British man after days of searching. He and a British woman were swept away by a sudden flash flood while hiking in the mountainous Torrent de Pareis canyon.
Two Brits Caught in Deadly Flash Flood
The incident happened earlier this week when severe weather battered the island. The pair were hiking along a trail in the Tramuntana mountains on Tuesday when the flash flood struck.
The woman’s body was discovered on Wednesday, sparking a frantic search for the missing man. On Friday, Spain’s Civil Guard confirmed they had found his body nearby.
Deadly Canyon Known for Flash Flood Dangers
The Torrent de Pareis canyon is famous for dramatic cliffs and a hidden beach but becomes treacherous in heavy rain. Flash floods hit regularly from autumn to spring, turning peaceful trails into deadly torrents.
Emergency services had been scanning the area since the storm unleashed widespread flooding across the Balearic Islands and Spain’s eastern coast. Authorities had warned of strong winds and heavy rain days before the tragedy.
