Drama in the skies as easyJet flight forced to U-turn over engine trouble

Flight from Gatwick to Turkey cuts short

An easyJet Airbus A320 had to turn back to London Gatwick shortly after takeoff on Tuesday morning. The flight, heading for Dalaman, Turkey, took off at 8:15am but was forced to return thanks to sudden engine issues detected over the English Channel.

Emergency descent and delay for passengers

The plane, registered G-EZPB, dropped from 29,000 feet to 14,000 feet and circled as pilots assessed the problem. Air traffic controllers then ordered the Airbus back to Gatwick, causing an unexpected delay and leaving passengers anxious for news.

easyJet acts fast with replacement aircraft

The airline quickly arranged a replacement Airbus A320, registration G-EZRY, which took off at 12:19pm. Flight #U28563 reached Dalaman safely just before 6:00pm local time, finally completing the nearly four-hour journey.

easyJet reassured passengers that safety was the top priority throughout the incident, which disrupted what was meant to be a routine European holiday flight.
