A21 Shut Both Ways After Massive Fire and Burst Water Main
East Sussex’s A21 is completely closed in both directions between the A28 at Baldslow and the A2100 near Battle. The chaos started with a huge building fire at Ebdens Hill right next to the road.
Firefighters and Police Rush to Scene
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sprang into action, quickly battling the blaze. Sussex Police traffic officers also turned up to manage the fallout on the busy route.
Thankfully, the fire is now out. But the misery continues as a burst water main nearby has kept the road shut. Emergency crews are waiting on Southern Water to arrive and fix the leak before reopening can happen.
No End in Sight – Drivers Urged to Plan Ahead
National Highways has no timeline yet for when the A21 will reopen. Drivers are warned to buckle up for serious delays and consider alternative routes or postponing travel altogether.

- Northbound/Londonbound: Follow hollow square symbols. Exit A21 at Baldslow, merge onto A28. Continue to Broad Oak, turn left onto B2089 heading west through Cripps Corner. Stay on B2089 back to A21.
