A man in his 50s has died in a shocking hit-and-run on the A120 near Coggeshall this morning, Saturday 3 January. The fatal crash involved several vehicles and has left police hunting for the driver who fled the scene.
Fatal Collision Closes A120 Near Coggeshall
Emergency services were called at 7am to a crash on the Colchester-bound side of the A120 between West Street and Colne Road. Despite multiple vehicles at the scene, police say a driver failed to stop, sparking an urgent investigation.
The victim, a grey-haired man dressed in dark clothes, was spotted walking alone along the A120 toward Colchester just before 7am. His devastated family has been informed and is receiving support.

Police are probing a suspicious white van found heavily damaged by fire in a layby on the Braintree-bound carriageway near Watery Lane, close to Bradwell. The van is believed to be connected to the tragic incident.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has tragically lost his life today,” said Inspector James Freeman of the roads policing unit. “We are piecing together what happened and urge anyone who saw him walking or noticed the fire-damaged van to come forward.”
“Please check any dashcam footage from 6.30am to 7.10am on the A120 between Bradwell, Coggeshall, and Colchester.”
