Firefighters Battle Blaze on Balcony in Canning Town High-Rise

Six fire engines and 30 firefighters raced to a blazing balcony in East London’s Canning Town in the early hours of Monday morning. The fire, believed to have started from a discarded match, broke out on the third floor of a cladding-covered high-rise near Rathbone Market.

Barking Road remains closed in both directions while London Fire Brigade (LFB) crews battle the fire. A specialist aerial ladder was deployed shortly after 2am to assist firefighters on the scene.

Swift Action Limits Damage; Probe Underway

Firefighters used two hose reels and a jet to control the blaze quickly, while thermal imaging helped spot any hidden hot spots behind the cladding. Luckily, no injuries have been reported.

The fire damage has been contained mainly to the third floor, although the flat below suffered some water damage. A London Fire Brigade investigation is now underway to pinpoint the blaze’s exact cause.

“We received multiple calls about the balcony fire and acted swiftly to prevent it spreading,” said an LFB spokesperson.

The London Fire Brigade has been contacted for further details.
