Friends Star Matthew Perry Dies in Tragic Jacuzzi Accident

Matthew Perry, best known as Chandler Bing from the hit 90s sitcom Friends, has died aged 54. The beloved star accidentally drowned in his home jacuzzi, sources told TMZ on Saturday.

Found Unresponsive at Los Angeles Home

Emergency services were called to Perry’s Los Angeles residence after reports of a cardiac arrest. Authorities arrived around 4 pm and found the actor unresponsive in his jacuzzi. Law enforcement sources confirmed no drugs were found at the scene and there is no sign of foul play.

Robbery-homicide detectives are now investigating the circumstances of his death, but initial reports point to a tragic accident.

Matthew Perry’s Battle with Addiction

Perry publicly struggled with substance abuse for many years. His addiction began after a jet skiing accident, leading to painkiller dependence. He first sought rehab in 1997, then again in 2001 and 2011.

“At one point, I was taking up to 55 Vicodin a day,” Perry revealed in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. “I didn’t know how to stop.”

His opioid addiction caused severe health issues, including a ruptured colon at age 49. He survived against the odds after 14 surgeries and two weeks in a coma, with just a 2% chance of survival.

Despite these challenges, sources say Perry was sober and positive in recent weeks.

A Career Remembered

Perry rocketed to fame with Friends, which ran for 10 seasons and remains a cultural phenomenon worldwide. He also starred in films like Fools Rush In and The Whole Nine Yards. While he never replicated Friends’ iconic success, his work left a lasting impact on fans and colleagues alike.

In his final Instagram post days before his death, Perry shared a sun-soaked poolside snap with the caption: “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”
