Royston Evans Jailed for Terrifying Reign of Abuse in Wellingborough
Royston Kevin Evans, once of Wellingborough, has been locked up for 4½ years after a shocking campaign of abuse against his partner. What started as cruel put-downs in March 2021 spiralled into chilling physical violence and extreme control.
From Insults to Choking and Control
Evans methodically stripped his victim of her freedom. He dictated who she could speak to and barred her from leaving their home. So controlling, she even had to ask permission to use the bathroom at night. The abuse turned violent – Evans repeatedly choked and assaulted her.
In a harrowing incident outside Wellingborough Police Station, officers saw him pinning the woman against a wall as she desperately tried to press the buzzer for help.
Justice Served at Northampton Crown Court
Following an investigation, Evans was arrested and faced court. On March 14, Northampton Crown Court sentenced him to four and a half years behind bars. One year of the sentence related to a separate dangerous driving charge.
DC Stacey Hill, lead investigator from Northamptonshire Police’s Domestic Abuse Team, condemned Evans’ “truly deplorable” behaviour.
“Royston Evans controlled this woman – someone he was supposed to love – by breaking down her confidence piece by piece,” said DC Hill. “It took huge courage for her to come forward and support this investigation.”
“On average, victims try to leave seven times before they escape for good because abusers ramp up dangerous tactics to keep control. We will always be here to listen, understand, and support survivors without judgement.”
“This case highlights Northamptonshire Police’s commitment to tackling domestic abuse. If you are suffering, take the first step and speak to us. You deserve better.”
Love Should Never Hurt
Love means safety, happiness, and respect – not fear, anxiety, and control. If you are trapped in an abusive relationship, speak out. Help is available and you do not have to suffer in silence.
