Dramatic Water Rescue in Netley as RNLI Saves Man in Medical Emergency
Lifeboat Dash Amid Training Exercise
The RNLI raced to the rescue of a man struggling in the water off Netley, Southampton, on Tuesday evening (25th July). The distress call came in during a local Coastguard search and rescue (CRT) team’s training exercise just yards away.
Coastguard Helicopter Joins the Action
The Coastguard helicopter was scrambled alongside Calshot lifeboat, which was first on scene. The seriously ill man was quickly transferred from the lifeboat to the helicopter, ensuring rapid medical evacuation.
Swift Hospital Transfer
The patient was airlifted to Southampton before being rushed by land ambulance to Southampton General Hospital. A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed crews and specialist paramedics arrived at Beach Lane, Netley Abbey, at 9pm to assess and treat the patient.
