NHS70 Thanksgiving Service Postponed Amid Heatwave and Low Expected Turnout

The much-anticipated NHS70 Thanksgiving Service at All Saints Church, Ryde, has been postponed. Originally set for Wednesday, 11th July, organisers pulled the plug after weighing up attendance concerns and the ongoing heatwave.

Heatwave and Busy July Push NHS Event Back

Andy Hollebon, Head of Communications & Engagement at Isle of Wight NHS Trust, explained the tough call:

“We’re very grateful for all the support at recent NHS70 events – from the Summer Fete on 1st July to the Careers event and bell ringing on 7th July.

“However, with soaring temperatures, staff pressures, and a packed July calendar, we couldn’t guarantee a full house to fill All Saints Church, which seats 600.”

Thanksgiving Service to Return This September

The service isn’t cancelled, just delayed. Organisers plan to reschedule it for September, aiming for a bigger crowd to celebrate 70 years of the NHS in style.

“We understand this will disappoint some, but we want a strong turnout to properly honour the NHS legacy,” Hollebon added.
