Man Plucked from Sea After Falling Overboard Near Strumble Head
A dramatic rescue unfolded off the coast of Pwll Deri today when a man fell overboard from his vessel just after 10am on 12 May.
Panic as Vessel Circles Out of Control
HM Coastguard received urgent 999 calls from the public reporting a person struggling in the water. The man’s boat was left circling uncontrolled around him, sparking fears for his safety. Fishguard Coastguard, Fishguard & Goodwick RNLI Lifeboat Station, and a Coastguard helicopter were rushed to the scene.
Fishing Boats to the Rescue
HM Coastguard issued a Mayday relay to all nearby vessels. Several fishing boats answered the call, with one successfully hauling the man from the choppy waters. He was quickly transferred onto the Fishguard lifeboat, then winched into the Coastguard helicopter.
Man Stable Despite Ordeal
The rescued man confirmed he was alone onboard and no one else was in danger. Although cold and shaken, he remained conscious. Meanwhile, one of the fishing boats regained control of his runaway vessel, which is now being brought into Fishguard Lifeboat Station.
We wish the man a swift and full recovery following this harrowing incident.
