Predator Jailed After Attacking Woman Walking Home From Bar in Finchley
Rapist Locked Up for Over Seven Years
A brutal rapist has been sentenced to seven years and eight months in jail for attacking a 28-year-old woman in Finchley. Mihai Roban, 47, who has no fixed address, was locked up at Harrow Crown Court on Thursday, 24 September. He must also sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Attack Caught in the Dead of Night
The horrifying incident happened around 2.40am on Monday, 20 January. The victim was walking home along Regents Park Road after leaving a bar when Roban approached her. He then dragged her behind a public toilet and raped her, ignoring her desperate pleas to stop.
Heroic Bystander Calls Police
A member of the public heard the woman’s cries for help and raised the alarm. Police arrived quickly and found Roban with the victim. He was arrested and later charged with rape the same day. During questioning, Roban refused to comment.
Repeated Offender Finally Brought to Justice
Detective Sergeant Michael Daly revealed Roban had been in the UK just a week when he attacked the woman. “Enquiries in Romania revealed Roban had two previous rape convictions there,” Daly said. “Prison is exactly where he belongs.”
“He maintained his innocence until the week before trial, causing further pain to his victim. She’s been incredibly strong throughout, and hopefully this sentence will help her heal,” said DS Daly.
The detective also praised the public for stepping in, thanking them for calling the police and supporting the investigation team’s dedication to justice.
