Mystery Over Missing Man Turns Dark
Damien Heagney, 47, vanished late on 30 December 2021 near Dromore, just outside Cookstown. He was reported missing on 19 July 2023, sparking a long police investigation.
Arrest Made in Cookstown Murder Probe
Yesterday, police swooped on a property in the Cookstown area and arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of murder. Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Wilson said:
“Whilst I’m keeping an open mind, I now believe that Damien has sadly been murdered. Earlier today, Saturday, August 6, we arrested a 50-year-old male on suspicion of murder following the search of one property in the Cookstown area.”
She added the suspect is cooperating with police inquiries.

Heagney is described as 5’10” (1.77m) tall with a stocky build. Police have urged anyone with information on his disappearance to come forward immediately.
