Two Young Children Rescued from Wreckage in M2 Motorway Collision: HGV Driver Recounts Gripping Scene

In a harrowing early morning incident on the M2 motorway in Kent, two young children were pulled from the wreckage of a collision that left onlookers in shock. The collision occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, and has prompted an investigation by Kent Police.

The incident unfolded when an HGV driver, a Polish national, found himself at the centre of a gripping scene. The driver had been forced to seek refuge at the Medway services after coming under attack from individuals who had broken into the rear of his lorry and damaged the curtain, endangering his load.

Describing the unsettling events that led up to the collision, the driver explained that his cargo had come under attack during the night. Advised by the Police to park up at the Medway services, the driver complied, hoping for a respite from the alarming situation.

However, during his stay at the services, he was jolted awake by a deafening crash. Rushing outside to investigate, he was confronted with a disturbing sight—a red car had veered off the motorway, crashing into a forested area at the bottom of the services.

Amid the wreckage, the HGV driver made a grim discovery. Two young children, who had been travelling in the red car, were trapped beneath the debris. Reacting swiftly, the driver alerted the authorities, and police officers arrived promptly at the scene.

The scene was both chaotic and heart-wrenching as emergency responders worked tirelessly to free the children from the wreckage. Their efforts were rewarded with the successful rescue of the two young victims.

The Polish HGV driver, visibly shaken by the traumatic experience, expressed his concern for the children’s well-being, saying, “I really hope they are okay. I have been worrying about them all night. I have children myself.”

Kent Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the collision to determine the circumstances that led to the incident. The focus of the inquiry will include a thorough examination of the collision scene, statements from witnesses, and any available evidence.

The condition of the rescued children and the details surrounding the collision remains a top priority for Officers. Kent Police are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist with their ongoing investigation.

As this incident unfolds, the thoughts and concerns of the community are with the two young children and their families, hoping for their swift recovery from this harrowing ordeal.
