Carer Killed in Brutal Merridale Attack
Alfred Mattox was found battered with severe head and face injuries in his Merridale flat on 10 May. The 56-year-old carer later died in hospital from life-threatening wounds.
Attack Sparked by Party Row
Vitalie Tanga, 40, launched the savage assault at Mattox’s home after claiming the victim made a pass at him at a party. Neighbours, alarmed by loud banging, called police.
When officers arrived, it took Tanga a grueling seven minutes to let them in. He then tried to flee but was stopped. Tanga admitted he intended “to cause trouble.”
Victims Found Unconscious
Police found Alfred and two friends unconscious on the floor. Alfred suffered multiple facial fractures, a brain injury, and organ failure caused by heavy blows or possibly a weapon, a post mortem revealed.
While another man assaulted in the attack made a full recovery, Alfred tragically died two weeks after being hospitalised.
